It is an outdoor activity for the whole family, an exceptional hike that will take you away from all the crowded life to more quiet and serene moments.
Darb El Sama / درب السما : Sahel Alma – Harissa
Darb El Amar / درب القمر : Aintoura – Ein El Rihane – Daraoun – Harissa
Harissa is a beautifully area located on the majestic Bay of Jounieh on the sea coast of the Mediterranean. Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa is an important pilgrimage site high above Jounieh located at 650 meters above sea level and 20 km distance from Beyrouth the capital city, the site is accessible either by a steep winding road or a nine-minute journey by a gondola lift known as “Téléférique”.
It attracts both pilgrims and tourists who want to enjoy views of Jounieh.
The pilgrimage site is a huge 15-ton bronze (and painted white) statue of Virgin Mary, known as Our Lady of Lebanon or Notre Dame du Liban, with her arms outstretched. The statue was made at the end of the 19th century and inaugurated in 1908.
If you plan to start your hike from Sahel Alma, you can visit the monastery of “Mar Gerges”. On your way, you will enjoy the beautiful old houses and the woods. Arriving to “Wadi El Nabeh” valley, you can refill your bottles from its spring originated from Ghosta.
After that, you can continue hiking to Batha village in order to reach finally the destination: lady of Lebanon, Daroun Harissa at an altitude of 650meters.
You can also visit a Byzantine-style church , Melkite Greek Catholic basilica of St. Paul, located south of the statue and built between 1947 and 1962.
